it’s the go to verse when letdowns and disappointments happen in life, people will quote romans 8:28 to you, “all things work together for the good of those who love the lord…” but what if you just don’t want to hear that? sometimes you don’t want to hear about the bigger picture, you are not in the mind frame to concern yourself with how things are working together for the good. you only want things to work for the here and now. and if they are not, you just want to be angry and waddle in questioning of God’s plans.
been there! so what do you do when you don’t want to hear romans 8:28? you go back a couple verses and read romans 8:26 and 27, and know that God has your back even when you are tired of it all.
Romans 8:26, 27, and 28
Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God’s Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don’t know how or what to pray, it doesn’t matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans. He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God. That’s why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good. – The Message (MSG)
in the bible Jesus teaches us how to pray, in what is now known as the Lord’s prayer, and so i find it interesting that this scripture talks about not knowing how to pray, not knowing how to approach the throne of God when how to pray has been laid out in the four gospels. but no, you are so tired and frustrated you don’t know how to utter “Our Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth…” from your lips because, after all, you are not really interested in the will of God right now. you’re just upset and tired!
so while all your other friends are quoting romans 8:28 to you i will quote romans 8:26 and 27. God is with you and always willing to help you through it all. through the moments of letdowns and disappointments. he will take your wordless sighs and aching groans and make them into prayers. even in our moments of complete frustration, when we are so tired we don’t even know how to pray, he is in and for us.
