need to find some for my nephew and a few students in my class. i believe that all humans are born artists, but there are a few who remain as such. drawing is a natural thing that all children do, but you can look at the works of some children and see that they have something special that should be fostered. yesterday i bought the following book for my nephew, and i am going to share it with some of my students. it’s this beautiful book called Artist to Artist: 23 Major Illustrators Talk to Children About Their Art and each page is a fold out with the artist illustrations on one side and the artist talking about their art on the other side.
what caught my eye with this book was the eric carle artwork on the cover. i found it at a discount store shuffled under some other books, but the eric carle artwork is so identifiable and amazing. i had a slight rush of bliss when i found it.
but yeah, sketchbooks. sketchbooks.
children tend to draw on random pieces of paper and i think it’s really important to see your work all in one place. it makes you feel more like a creator. an artist. i’ve mentioned the sketchbooks to my 2nd graders and they didn’t know the concept of a sketchbook. i really have to go buy some for my 2nd graders, and my way talented 12 year old nephew.
