on thursday i went ahead and traveled to oklahoma city with my sister and nephews. visited the state capitol and the oklahoma city national memorial. the state capitol was nice, but we got there late so we weren’t able to tour everything. the national memorial wasn’t as emotional as i thought it would be, it’s a beautiful memorial though. after the memorial we went to the brickyard district and had starbucks! the next morning i visited the 45th infantry museum and the route 66 park. i got to hold this really heavy automatic gun at the museum, that was cool. the route 66 park was really empty for how nice the park is, but perhaps it was just because it wasn’t the weekend. love outdoors so the park visit was nice. one the best part of the trip was that i got to drive the historical route 66!
while there i saw this tv ad about oklahoma city, you know one of those travel ads, and i just thought that was weird. oklahoma city advertising to their own citizens about their own city. i’ve never seen a dallas ad here in dallas. i guess oklahoma city is trying to convince themselves that they are cool. norman, ok. is right outside of oklahoma city and we stopped to get a glimpse of the ou campus. thank God i am a texan and i went to ut!
the drive there and back was pleasant. from dallas on i-35 there is prime example of urban sprawl. there is only like 30 miles of nothingness before you get to the state border. a little bit into oklahoma from the state border line there is a scenic route option, from the interstate i imagine it is beautiful. near turner falls. will have to explore that option next time.
good birthday.
good trip.
