HAPPY monday! i had a good weekend. i hope your weekend totally rocked!
maintaining a proximity to work
as i wrote last week i feel like i’ve been way too social and haven’t accomplished a lot of things lately. too much play and not enough work. on saturday my sister called me and asked what i was up to, i told her i was actually napping when she called and she was immediately like, “so you’re not on your grind?” i explained to her that the important thing is that i am home, i am close to my office, if i get the urge to work i can easily go to my office and get work done. i call it having a proximity to work. my sister’s response? laugh out loud laughter! she ended up going to the movies on saturday night without me, and i stayed close to work.
coffee and church
sunday morning i visited watermark community church. had never been, but it’s a popular church here in dallas. and i was a bit fascinated by the fact that they had unlimited coffee in their vast entry area and their chairs all have cup holders. so drinking coffee during the service is encouraged. their sanctuary smelled like a coffee shop. so what do you think about this whole coffee in church concept?
on sunday evening i did get some work done. i had a photo shoot! this is iyana, and she is actually one of my students this year. i know her mom because she use to work at the school where i work, and i have photographed her kids in the past. i always say i am going to “blog the shoot” but lately i never really get around to doing that, and so in the meantime here is a photo from the photo shoot yesterday. a lovely evening at white rock late doing what i love…photographing lovely people.
yesterday evening i photographed zion! a very intelligent 1st grader. a photographer’s dream. this girl knows how to work the camera! here is a peek at some of the photos. i will eventually post more pictures.
i had two photo shoots this weekend, but i also got in tons of “play”. i caught up on my house on fox episodes from the past month or so. and i am sort of sad about the series ending, i replayed the voice over/teaser about the “series finale” multiple times to make sure i heard right. since i think tv is a huge waste of time, it’s actually a good thing! lol. one less hour of tv watching for me.
every friday i share a picture and explain how i got the shot. here is this week’s photo:
how i got the shot: last weekend i attended two fall festivals. my church held a fall festival last sunday, and a fellow church member asked me to snap some shots of her grandbaby dressed as tigger. i absolutely love babies in costumes. absolutely so adorable. the key to photographing kids and babies is patience and getting down to their level (literally!). he wasn’t interested in smiling at first, so i put my camera down and just engaged him and he gave me a series of all kinds of coos and scrumptious faces.
used my 50mm lens at 1.8. in post, lightroom, i adjusted the exposure a little bit, added some black, contrast, and vibrance. direct sunlight was hitting his face so in post i had to adjust for that issue.
busy busy weekend. i took monday off for recovery time!
i had a good weekend. i was able to hang out with my friends jamie + will & daniel. unfortunately it takes over an hour to get to their house, but i always enjoy myself while i am out there. we went to the park and i shot some photos of daniel, and while walking back to the car i snapped some pictures of him walking with his mom. in post production they reminded of paparazzi photos. at people.com they have where you can make your own cover, so i did just that!
yes, daniel wants to know his abc’s and how to count to 30!
hope your weekend was awesome. here is an affirmation for your week, to get your week started off right, a video of clips from a lot of different songs using the line “what doesn’t kill me makes me stronger” by nietzsche.
i woke up this morning and attempted to go to work but i didn’t make it. i called in sick. for the past week i’ve not been 100% and this morning i felt it. i spent all day yesterday coughing and then today my body was just so tired. i slept until almost noon! much needed rest.
here is one of my favorite little kids in the world, daniel, playing in his room with his train set and his friend logan. planning a play date with his mom and dad real soon. a movie night!
this is logan (their moms are best friends):
hope your tuesday has been awesome, and that the road is rising up to meet you!
this is miss cahlia‘s brother curtis. and how handsome is he? when we first met for the photo shoot he was a little hesitant about the whole thing, but once we got going he was such a natural in front of the camera and so into it! he gave me so much to work with. and he is quite the little conversationalist as well. s-m-a-r-t! he is in 3rd grade and we talked some about the taks exam this week, and i am sure he did awesome on it!
i advertise my photo session as an hour shoot, but with curtis and cahlia i just wanted to keep capturing them. like, really! gorgeous little kids.
on friday i hung out with the cutest little girl, miss cahlia. her mom wanted some headshots and some pictures for a comp card. i also photographed her brother as well, will give him his own blog post soon!
cahlia’s 6th birthday was on wednesday, so of course she is all grown up now. she is a kindergartner so i am use to hanging out with kids just like her…with tons of personality and energy! the location had a little trail that we walked and at the end she wanted to walk it again! lol.
can’t wait until her mom sees all the pictures. but if you need a little model that is cute as all get out she’s your girl!
she wanted to pose with a flower, so she did. love it when kids suggest poses!
Good old Texas…where the tea is sweet and accents are sweeter, summer starts in April, front porches are wide and words are long, macaroni & cheese is a vegetable, BBQ is the state food, y’all is a proper pronoun, chicken is fried, biscuits come with gravy, everyone is honey, someone is always getting their heart blessed, and we are all “fixin” to do something. Repost if you are PROUD TO BE FROM TEXAS!
that is a status update from a friend from facebook. i won’t get into any specific texas v. -insert state here- battle, but everything really is better in texas. today we had awesome weather. was out in a neighbor’s yard today and i snapped some pictures of her sweet little girl amarie. this upcoming week i am going to do a real photo shoot with amarie, her mom, and her baby brother.
the other day i was looking through some pictures and found some pictures when amarie was just a wee baby. it’s amazing how kids grow so fast.
