friday pic: don’t wait until the end of the year to reflect

every friday i share a picture and (sometimes) explain how i got the shot. here is this week’s photo:

at a local bookstore they are selling 2013 calendars. with septemeber being here we have entered into the last quarter of the year. one of the calendars seen in the picture is called reflections. why wait until the end of the year to reflect on 2012?

start reflecting now

consider where you are and where you thought you would be back in january. make adjustments if needed, and hopefully when the end of the year is actually here you will be able to look back and be proud of what you accomplished in 2012. never too late to start.

i look back at some of my goals of this year and i realize how there is tons of more work to be done in 2012. i have accomplished some things, but it’s been a slow year for me. last year i bought a house, published a book, turned 30, went on my first cruise, was writing pieces for the dallas morning news, and 2011 was just a really good year for me. 2012 hasn’t been bad, but i feel like i need to step my game up in this last quarter. i’ve been in some kind of creative slump.

who is with me?

who is ready to close the year out strong, and accomplish things that will propel your life into your full purpose?

friday pic: live 4 weekends?

every friday i share a picture and (sometimes) explain how i got the shot. here is this week’s photo:

how i got the shot: there is nothing special about this picture except for how it drew my attention while i was in walmart last night against my will. yeah, sometimes i find myself in walmart against my will! but that’s a whole other post. i was drawn to this shirt not because i would wear it, but because it’s been a crazy BUSY week and all i am looking forward to right now is the weekend!

it’s the first week of school, and while most teachers have 2 months and a half off we pay it for it during the year. especially at the beginning. been working 12 hours days this week. i expect for this to stop once i get everything organized in my classroom how i want it.

haven’t had much time this week to dedicate to my side hustles, but in my head I am planning some things for fall. like? thinking about doing another teleclass soon.

earlier in the week i posted about the change in email subscription management for my blog. if you are an email subscriber please look in your inbox for an email asking you to confirm your email address with the new list. thanks!

have an awesome weekend!

friday pic: main plaza

every friday i share a picture and (sometimes) explain how i got the shot. here is this week’s photo:

how i got the shot: instagram shot of the main plaza in san miguel, mexico. wasn’t really able to use instagram in san miguel since i didn’t have my cellphone data plan. in the main plaza there was free wifi.

what a week this has been. so overwhelming. the first day of school is on monday! i already know most of my kids on my roster from when i taught them in kindergarten. i am excited about being their teacher again!!!

thanks for reading.

friday pic: pottery maker

every friday i share a picture and (sometimes) explain how i got the shot. here is this week’s photo:

how i got the shot: this photo is from my trip from mexico. while there i traveled to this little town called dolores hidalgo, it’s a place famous in mexico’s story of independence but it is also famous for its pottery. tons of it! i don’t think the guy in the was all too happy with me taking this picture.

have a good friday!

friday pic: birthday season

every friday i share a picture and (sometimes) explain how i got the shot. here is this week’s photo:

how i got the shot: i took this with my nikon d700 and my lens with macro capabilities. this is from my birthday on tuesday. i had a little fiesta at mi casa complete with mexican decorations. it was fun. my friends and family are great people. to capture the cupcake i sat my camera on the table to reduce camera shake, and all the light is natural from the light in my dinning room. i think it’s a great picture, but it’s one of those things where the lens + camera are playing a huge part in the outcome of the picture. i barely did anything in post to this picture.

birthday season

i posted this on fb and made the comment that i personally know 9 people with birthdays this month. it’s like birthday season. the sociologist in me had to do some research, if you can call googling research, and found an article on abc called summertime mystery: more born, fewer die in august. interesting read.

have an awesome weekend!

friday pic: do you ever get the feeling you missed out?

every friday i share a picture and (sometimes) explain how i got the shot. here is this week’s photo:

how i got the shot: this is at my local walmart, yeah – where all the cool people hangout, and this sign really made me feel like i missed out on a good deal! a very substantial price drop. ohh, but i know better. once i saw a “rollback” sign where the current price was higher than the “was” price. yep, that’s walmart for you…rolling prices back up!

friday pic summer series: rocking chairs

every friday i share a picture and (sometimes) explain how i got the shot. for the month of july i am doing a summer series of summery things!

here is this week’s photo:

how i got the shot: i took this picture at the dallas zoo this past spring. when i go to the zoo i just don’t take pictures of the animals, i take pictures of everything! but i love what two rocking chairs on a porch represents. life slowed down. one day i will have a house with a wrap around porch and two rocking chairs and some sweet tea! oh yeah, gotta have the sweet tea!

“Worrying is like a rocking chair, it gives you something to do, but it gets you nowhere.” – Glenn Turner

friday pic summer series: books

every friday i share a picture and (sometimes) explain how i got the shot. for the month of july i am doing a summer series of summery things!

here is this week’s photo:

how i got the shot: as i said last week i love patterns, and things that are more than one. while at the mall i saw this cluster of books and snapped, snapped, snapped. then while i was snapping i was like, “oh my goodness, i’m a dork!” as all the fashionable mall people passed me by.

“I spent three days a week for 10 years educating myself in the public library, and it’s better than college. People should educate themselves – you can get a complete education for no money. At the end of 10 years, I had read every book in the library and I’d written a thousand stories.” – Ray Bradbury

so what’s on your reading list this summer?

friday pic summer series: sunglassess

every friday i share a picture and (sometimes) explain how i got the shot. for the month of july i am doing a summer series of summery things!

here is this week’s photo:

how i got the shot: as a photographer i am attracted to patterns, things that are more than one. this is a wall of sunglasses i took while i was in san marcos.

“I wish I was born in that era: dancing with Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly, going to work at the studio dressed in beautiful pants, head scarves, and sunglasses.” – Catherine Zeta-Jones

happy friday the 13th!

friday pic summer series: t-shirts

every friday i share a picture and (sometimes) explain how i got the shot. for the month of july i am doing a summer series of summery things!

here is this week’s photo:

how i got the shot: this was taken the same time as last week’s photo. this display of t-shirts by the gap is located in downtown dallas. i thought it was cool since it’s made out of real t-shirts. i love the gap, even though some of their clothes are cheaply made.

“I’ve always thought of the T-shirt as the Alpha and Omega of the fashion alphabet.” – Giorgio Armani

i am leaving tomorrow for mexico. my to do list today is massive. but i think i can, i think i can…

off to be more than a conqueror! ;)

friday pic: dallas in the evening time

every friday i share a picture and (sometimes) explain how i got the shot. here is this week’s photo:

how i got the shot: taken with my iphone. there are two filters going on here. i took this picture in my mom’s suv with the window rolled up and she has somewhat of a dark tint on her windows. the tint took away vibrancy. then i completed the look with an instagram filter. this picture was taken in the evening and the sun was peaking from behind the BELO building creating this incredible orange/red hot spot in the picture, but i focused on the reunion tower (with your iphone if you want to focus on a subject just touch the spot on the screen where you want to focus).

but you know what? i’ll just show you the SOOTC (straight out of the camera) picture!

i can go on about this picture, but i don’t want to lose my audience. haha. you all have an awesome friday!

friday pic: spark&hustle

every friday i share a picture and (sometimes) explain how i got the shot. here is this week’s photo:

yesterday i had the awesome opportunity to attend a spark&hustle event here in dallas. i will do a complete write up about it next week. i made so many great connections. i believe in walking with the dreamers, and i felt like i was in a room full of dreamers yesterday! so amazing.

but oh my oh my, i leave for mexico next weekend! i went old school and wrote out a to do list on pen and paper. trying not to get overwhelmed. in the past couple weeks i haven’t been 100% but i need to get my act together and step up my game.

since i will be gone until mid august and i am unsure about my access to the internet i am looking for a little help from my friends in keeping my blog updated. details coming soon. real soon!
