i’d like to think the best of me is still hiding up my sleeve

i forgive him for his crazy comments that he made a couple years ago. i prefer to focus on the good. his music. i am eager to hear john mayer’s new album, born and raised, that comes out today! i owe it to john mayer for helping me find a “new deep” in my 20′s…

Cause ever since I tried
Trying not to find
Every little meaning in my life
It’s been fine
I’ve been cool
With my new golden rule

in “no such thing” john mayer influenced my approach to life and taught me to rise above the norm…

“Welcome to the real world”, she said to me
Condescendingly
Take a seat
Take your life
Plot it out in black and white
Well I never lived the dreams of the prom kings
And the drama queens
I’d like to think the best of me
Is still hiding
Up my sleeve

and while i sometimes go on about other singer songwriters (like gavin degraw) john mayer will always be the one, the musician, that helped me make sense of my life in my 20′s. if you can find some of his earlier bootleg live recordings floating around the internet press download. amazing covers, unreleased songs, rawness, awesome guitar, entertaining chatter in between songs, just incredible stuff.

shine a light through an open door

a beautiful piece by violinist lindsey stirling and ventribe, profiling her trip to kenya with a nice twist on rihanna’s “we found love” song. in one scene lindsey stirling mentions how it was their first time hearing a violin in person. she’s amazing, and an amazing example of sharing one’s gift with the world.

i won’t let you go

listening to james morrison new cd “the awakening” on spotify. lovely. just lovely. his voice is amazing. you can’t fake that tone of voice.

And if there’s love just feel it,
And if there’s life we’ll see it
This is no time to be alone, alone, yeah
I won’t let you go

crank it up.

she’s nikki and he’s rich (greatest hits)

i’ve mentioned them before but their album finally came out! i’ve been waiting forever for this album to come out! greatest hits by nikki & rich. i’ve followed nikki leonti since she was a teen, and she has this amazing voice. effortlessly awesome. she teamed up with this artist named rich velonskis and together they are nikki & rich. their style is r&b, and a little retro.

so many great songs on the album but if i had to pick “everything” is up there at the top.

support talented people and
buy their music on amazon!

i want to hold your hand

i am on a beatles kick right now. i put together an awesome beatles mix that i’ve been jamming to the past few weeks. the playlist includes:

    Eleanor Rigby/Julia
    Here Comes the Sun
You Never Give Me Your Money
    HELP!
    Hey Jude
I Want to Hold Your Hand
    Blackbird/Yesterday
    Come Together/Dear Prudence/Cry Baby Cry
    All You Need Is Love
    Yellow Submarine

my friend marie posted this yesterday on facebook, and it’s the most adorable thing ever!!! a little boy singing “hey jude”.

i got to introduce my kindergartners to the beatles. put them on my morning playlist. they really liked coldplay.

she’s not just a pretty face (happy 100th anniversary of international women’s day)

happy fat tuesday, and more importantly happy international women’s day! one of my students gave me some beads and that is the extent of my mardi gras celebrations.

google is always on top of things, this is there logo for the day! love them.

the other day i ran across this shania twain song in my music collection. hadn’t played it in a long time, i fell in love with it all over again. i think it is fitting to share for international women’s day.
and maya angelou’s phenomenal woman is worth a read in celebration of women.

“She’s Not Just A Pretty Face”

She hosts a T.V. show–she rides the rodeo
She plays the bass in a band
She’s an astronaut–
a valet at the parking lot
A farmer working the land
She is a champion–she gets the gold
She’s a ballerina–the star of the show

[Chorus:]
She’s–not–just a pretty face
She’s–got–everything it takes
She has a fashion line–
a journalist for “Time”
Coaches a football team
She’s a geologist–a romance novelist
She is a mother of three
She is a soldier–she is a wife
She is a surgeon–she’ll save your life

[Chorus:]
She’s–not–just a pretty face
She’s–got–everything it takes
She’s–mother–of the human race
She’s–not–just a pretty face

Oh, oh, yeah
Oh na, na, na, na…..
She is your waitress–she is your judge–
she is your teacher
She is every woman in the world

Oh, la, la, la
She flies an airplane–
she drives a subway train
At night she pumps gasoline
She’s on the council–she’s on the board
She’s a politician–she praises the Lord

[Repeat Second Chorus]

No, she’s (she’s) not (not)–
just a pretty face
She’s (she’s) got (got)–everything it takes
She’s–not–just a pretty face
She’s got everything it takes
She’s not just a pretty face

living my life like it is golden

golden by jill scott

it’s plain to see what we got is color in a world of black and white

last spring i wrote a post called charmed life referring to the joy williams song. i didn’t post the song then, but i found this live version of the song that is brilliant.

Charmed Life by Joy Williams (joy williams is also part of the duo the civil wars)

Just sit tight, Don’t you even think about going anywhere
Stay where you are, Open up your eyes to what’s all already there
What I’m about to tell ya, What I’m about to say
Don’t even let it? throw ya,
It just might change your day.

We’re living in a charmed life, charmed life
You and I, a charmed life
ohh ho oh ho ohh

There’s a well-lit sky hanging over everyone that’s walking by
It’s plain to see what we got is color in a world of black and white
Don’t even let it fool ya, We got everything we need
Don’t even let it throw ya, I know it’s hard to believe

We’re living in a charmed life, charmed life
You and I, a charmed life
ohhhh ohh ohhh

It’s easier said than done, it’s true, it’s true
But count your kisses one by one, we’re living proof, we’re living a..

Charmed life, charmed life
You and I, a charmed life, ohhhh ohhh
Charmed life, charmed life
You and I, a charmed life, ohh
Just sit tight, Don’t you even think about going? anywhere

happy 1-11-11 day

off to a not so great week. been sick and tired. haven’t been that productive, but i plan to bounce back! we got snow in texas on sunday here in dallas, tx. but unfortunately i slept through it. didn’t get to get out in it and snap any photographs or enjoy it.

but speaking of photographs!!! i uploaded some of my photography work onto my tumblr account and linked my account to randomactsofphotography.com. it will be a place to share…some of my random photography!

jessie j.’s who you are song has been my get-up-and-jam song the past couple mornings. an awesome anthem to just be who you are. this chick’s got talent. one lyric mentions how she is losing her mind “over a tiny error.” so can relate! making mountains over little hills.

remember my subscribe & win giveaway is going on during the whole month of january! win my 2011 calendar filled with some of my photography pictures.
live on.
