GIVE everything is now available!

today is the day! GIVE everything: A Quote Book For Dreamers is now available!

in competition with your facebook news feed!

the other day i mentioned to my brother the release of my new book. a sure thing for my brother to buy my book, right? nope. he told me he doesn’t have much bandwidth. my reply was, “oh no, it’s not a digital book.” then he explained what he meant, he doesn’t have much space in his head for extra stuff like my book!

i assured my brother that the book wasn’t dense, very easy to get through like my other two books. but there i was…selling my book to my very own brother! i finally told him that he can buy it and give it away to someone. in other words, don’t have to read it just buy it! :)

giveeverythingonamazon

the reason why my brother isn’t interested in buying my book is the same reason why a lot of people won’t buy my book (or your book!)…information overload! another book? something else you want me to read? don’t i read enough when i scroll through my facebook news feed every hour? i’m already overloaded with information, no thank you.

so on the day of the official release of my book GIVE everything (thanks alice for buying it already!) i think about the tons of writers and bloggers out in the world producing information and content and then how there is little ol’ me with my little blog and books. i am completely grateful to anyone who buys my book!

the conversation with my brother reinforced the importance of never taking for granted someone buying into and supporting whatever it is that you do. we live in a choice based world, people have options! you are not the only fish in the sea. so if you are one of many how do you be successful and survive?

how to be heard in a loud world!

1. be your best

the competition is crazy fierce, and the only thing you can control in the competition is your performance. sharpen your skills, work harder, be consistent. your work will separate you from the crowd. and when people get the opportunity to choose you will be a front runner and they will hopefully choose you.

2. love what you do

love what you do because not everyone is going to love it and want it. then what? it’s okay, because the only imperative thing is that you love doing whatever it is that you do. the love that you have for your work will be the thing that propels you to your next project, time after time. and maybe next time they will love it and want it.

my heart will overflow with gratitude

while some of you all have your reasons like my brother why you are not really interested in my book i believe many of you guys will actually buy GIVE everything! and that my dear friends will make my heart overflow with gratitude. and i hope you will not only buy it but read it. there is something in the book for you if you need encouragement and focus for your dreams. right now i am all about dreams and making them happen!

for everyone who buys any of my books within the next month i will personally send you a handwritten thank you note if you contact me with your information.

GIVE everything (ISBN: 0615803644) is available at amazon.com and barnesandnoble.com today!

to celebrate the release of my new book my first book 30 things will be FREE on the kindle all this week until the 18th! grab it. tweet it. read it. thanks!

YAY! :)

what are your God given dreams?

Godgivendreams

the subtitle of my upcoming book is called a quote book for dreamers because it really is fuel for anyone who has a dream! at the beginning of the year i told you i wanted to help you dream bigger dreams and accomplish great things. GIVE everything is part of that promise.

God has really been speaking to me concerning dreams. at church this past sunday there was a guest speaker who delivered a sermon called the dream seed, and it was one of those wow moments. i felt like God was speaking directly to me, just confirmation on this whole dream direction i have taken with GIVE everything.

people talk a lot about how to find your life’s purpose, and i believe one way to do that is to pursue God given dreams!

these dreams do not include the expectations or limitations of people. a lot of times our dreams and goals can be influenced by people and their expectations of how our lives should be.

but what are your God given dreams? if you don’t know consider these two things:

1. childhood dreams

how about taking a look at your childhood dream! it is so cliche to ask a child what do they want to be when they grow up, yet whatever they answer with is very profound. i believe the answer to this question as a child comes from the soul. it comes from your spirit. it comes from God. at that age you are not weighing the positives and negatives, you’re just drawn for some reason to whatever it is that you want to be. as a child you are your true self, and because of that there is power in your childhood dreams.

oh, but what if your childhood dream was to be a superhero? see no. 2!

2. ask for revelation

maybe you didn’t have a concrete answer to the old age question of “what do you want to be when you grow up?” because you were too busy playing in the sandbox! ;) it’s okay, it’s never too late to ask God to reveal what he will have you to be and do, and from this will spring God given dreams.

and here is the awesome thing about God given dreams…

God will reveal the dreams he has for your life, but all the things he is capable of doing is beyond our comprehension and wildest dreams!

when you have God given dreams the holy thing to do is to make up in your mind to pursue and to walk in your life’s purpose, to pursue the dreams that God has planted in your soul.

7 rules for life

happy monday everyone! hope you guys have an awesome week!

7 cardinal rules in life

success is not a single, magical event

successnextexit

JIM ROHN SAID:

failure is not a single, cataclysmic event. you don’t fail overnight. instead, failure is a few errors in judgement, repeated every day.

I SAY:

success is not a single, magical event. you don’t succeed overnight. instead, success is many moments of hard work, repeated every day.

foreeeeverrr

last year this time i talked about an affirmation book i had been working on at the time for over a year. the post was called sometimes things just take time (and lots of work), and i went on about how the book was taking FOREVER. little did i know at the time that it would take another year to finally say…i finished writing my affirmation book!!!!!! the book is called 365 affirmations, and i’m SO EXCITED about this project! i really do believe in the power of speaking life over your life.

it took foreeeeverrr to finish writing the book, but in the process i gained training in sticking it out! i like things to be check, check, done! BUT, things don’t always work like that. sometimes you find yourself not too far from where you started, but always keep the end goal in mind. be willing to go through the process. some people don’t have the patience for the process, but the process (the work) is the bridge you must take if you want to move from ideas to reality.

stick it out!

whatever creative project you are working on right now i encourage you to stick it out! don’t give up on it. you can successfully finish it, but it doesn’t happen overnight. totally trust me on this one!

i’ve been keeping busy, folks! besides from the affirmation book i’ve been working on a quote book and a book on teaching. soon and very soon they will all be available. release dates coming soon!

in other news: emeli sandé is all kinds of amazing!

monday motivation: work hard…er

did you watch the oscars? love the fact that anne hathaway and jennifer lawrence won oscars!

instead of allowing the oscars to be a complete time suck i spent time writing while i watched the show. i’m glad i watched. a couple things stood out to me during the evening.

the first one i tweeted out and it was a quote from the late great nora ephron, “the hardest thing about writing is writing.” as i sat and wrote i completely agreed! for me it is making the time to actually sit and write, that’s why i have my “sit & write”sticky note near my desk. and yes, sometimes it is the act within itself that is hard. the things you must do isn’t always easy, though. but if you want to be not only called but chosen you must do them.

then there is the thing ben affleck said at the end of his acceptance speech for best picture. he said, “work harder than you think you possibly can.” i know that it is work that gets things accomplished, and it is what separates successful people from non successful people.

this week i am going to require more of myself, work on my goals even when i am dead tired. i will go ahead and add the comparative er to my work hard. c’mon, join me in working harder than before!

have a blessed week!

Porcupining A Prickly Love Story

shared this book with my students this week. their response? “again, again!” it’s a really cute book for kids, unfortunately it looks like it is out of print and is selling for a ridiculous price on amazon’s marketplace. maybe your local library carries it.

What could be more poignant than a porcupine pining for a companion? With pun-filled prose and pleasing pictures, this passionate tale of love and friendship between two prickly creatures in a petting zoo makes a perfect read aloud (and a sublime Valentine). “A wonderfully funny tale of love and happiness. The adorable illustrations make Cushion a charming character.” –Kidsbookshelf.com

monday motivation: get up and go even if you don’t want to

At 101 years old, Connie was still riding her horse every day. She taught over 36,000 girls to ride at a girls summer camp over a span of 70 years. She was a huge inspiration to many people. Her health was great and her mind was sharp. I asked her what her secret to longevity was. She said, “Well Honey, you just don’t let that rocking chair take over…you get up and go even if you don’t want to.” – americancowgirl.com

happy martin luther king, jr. day!

it’s going to be an awesome day! so thankful for dr. king’s vision for this great nation and the world. it’s one of peace and love. this is my favorite holiday! and then the inauguration is today…oh, what a great day!

drmartinlutherkingjrbelieveinyourself

had a huge response yesterday (through email and fb) to the post i failed kindergarten and why you should never count yourself out! thanks! and i want to clarify that the pictures i posted are from my actual kindergarten report card!

just a reminder my book 30 things i know for certain kindle version is FREE today and tomorrow for download! at the moment it is #14 in personal growth & inspiration in kindle books. let’s move it up!

“I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.

i failed kindergarten and why you should never count yourself out

yep, i was THAT KID

a couple years ago i found my kindergarten report card and made a shocking discovery…I FAILED KINDERGARTEN! when i was in kindergarten i was THAT KID, the weird kid! I didn’t do a lot of participation or talking. i didn’t know i failed kindergarten because i didn’t actually repeat kindergarten, my parents requested that i go ahead and be assigned to the next grade level.

i made ALL N’s in my language arts skills. i find this interesting because as an adult i consider myself an above average speller, reader, and writer. in college i turned in 1st drafts and made A’s, i’ve written for a major newspaper, and i’ve written and published books. plus, the little girl that failed kindergarten grew up to teach kindergarten.

gloriamariekinderreportcard1

never count yourself out

as you can see my kindergarten teacher, mrs. adams, counted me out for promotion because i didn’t know a few letters and sounds (thanks mom and dad for passing me on). i hadn’t connected all the pieces yet! but soon after kindergarten i cracked the alphabetic code and things turned out okay for me. and in my defense, i was a young kindergartner since my birthday is in august!

if you are a beginner at something, just starting out with something, don’t count yourself out. you probably don’t have it all figured out right now, but it’s okay, stick with it and things will click. it’s not that you are incapable, you just need a little more time to figure it out. over time you will develop. you will have a turning point. i have taught over 100 kids and i always think about the unknown of what the kids will grow up to become. you just never know! but it doesn’t matter what age you are, your future always holds many amazing possibilities. always believe that your latter will be greater than your past (haggai 2:9).

while things do change there are some things that stay the same! i also made all N’s in class participation. this cracks me up because i am still that girl that is not eager to jump in and participate in whatever you have going on. but i imagine in the future “social media skills” will be a graded section in kindergarten!

free kindle version of 30 things for the holiday!

to celebrate my favorite holiday, mlk day, the kindle version of my book 30 things i know for certain will be a free download on monday and tuesday (1/21/2013 and 1/22/2013). download, read, like, share, review, and all that good stuff! thanks!

i am happy because it is the present

i have a week off from work to celebrate thanksgiving! so excited and blessed! my students are the best though. we recently did a lesson on past, present, and future, and at the end we used a graphic organizer and the kids had to write things about their past, present, and future.

one of my students wrote THIS:

complete awesomeness. like really, what else do you need to be happy? you don’t need the past or all the possibilities of the future! you just need this moment right now, the present.
this child knows what’s up. but yeah, out of the mouth of babes.

i miss teaching kindergarten, but second graders are pretty lovely. they are aware, but still have tons of innocence left in them. they write sweet notes to me all the time and i write mini motivational/self help books/encouraging notes back to them…i think some of them really get it. and some are just left puzzled! ;)

my thanksgiving break will be busy busy busy. i have two friends coming into town for thanksgiving. before the actual holiday i plan to bury myself in the art of bookmaking. yes, i am working on a couple book projects that i am excited about! more details coming soon.

the other day i discovered that my book 30 things is on goodreads.com with a couple reviews and ratings. if you’ve read my book and is on goodreads.com i would love for you to rate it. thanks!

have a good weekend!

5 ways to expose yourself to your greatest fears

eleanor roosevelt said “do one thing every day that scares you.” doing a true fright fest everyday would be challenging, but i think the essence of eleanor roosevelt’s quote is that we should go face our fears.

last year when i did the teleclass it was frightening. will anyone dial in? will i say um too much? over a dozen people showed up and yes, i said um too much. but i did it, and i am thinking about doing it again.

when i spoke at my singles ministry at my church last year i asked myself why. why in the world would i do such a thing? i never claim to be a speaker, but there i was speaking about speaking God’s word into your life.

and then not too long ago my school district asked me to head up an action plan team. i said yes but i wanted to say no. i would have to plan, organize, and talk at team meetings.

frightening things for an introvert with a slight stutter. the whole public speaking thing. i prefer to do what i am doing right now, using the written word.

what eleanor roosevelt wanted us all to experience is exposure therapy.

what is exposure therapy?

exposure therapy is basically exposing yourself to the thing that causes you the most fear over and over again…until you are no longer most afraid of “the thing”.

this past summer i went to six flags in arlington, tx. and got on a ride called the texas giant. it has a 79° drop of 147 ft. that first drop was like whoa but by the end of the ride i had my hands up. my reaction to the ride had changed into something less dramatic the longer i was on, exposed to, the ride.

so what frightens you the most?

think about things that are standing between you and the great work that God has put you on this earth to do. those are the fears worth dealing with. we often allow fear to keep us out of the will of God.

here are 5 ways to help you expose yourself to your greatest fear.

    1. take baby steps

last year i had started a bible study group with a handful of women. unknowingly this experience of talking about the word of God in this small group setting helped me better face the fear of speaking in front of a larger group. start small, and build up. it’s exposure nonetheless.

    2. get uncomfortable

we are creatures of comfort, but you have to tell yourself that you can handle being a little uncomfortable. ford motor company has a saying of built ford tough, know that you were built human tough. push yourself out of your comfort zone. the comfort zone is a dream destroyer. it is the place where dreams go and die.

    3. choose bravery

the famous quote by tony robbins says, “if you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always gotten.” if you always stand fearful you will always have fear. i encourage you to stand brave, and get a different result. most feelings are a choice. choose to be brave.

    4. play it out

a lot of our fears are irrational. we dream up scenarios in our head that are most unlikely to happen. but you might ask, what if they do? good question. play it out, your worst case scenario. do you survive? do you end up okay? how does it all play out? more than likely you survive!

    5. become curious

let curiosity outweigh your fear. kids do this all the time! kids have a strong desire to explore the world around them, even if that means dealing with a not so great consequence.

my prayer for you is that you do not allow fear to steal your hopes and dreams. the bible says that God has not given us the spirit of fear. God has given us power, love, and a sound mind (2 timothy 1:7). operate within those realms instead of fear.

for the pinners!
