you don’t have to be great to start

“You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great” – Zig Ziglar

my friend alice posted this quote recently on facebook. this year has been about encouraging people to simply start! start on whatever it is you’ve been talking about starting. stop the talking and start doing!

at the beginning of the year i did the the start series, and i want to make note again that i nicely packaged it for you to download and easily read at your convenience. download the start series! free.

here is an image i created…just for you! it’s pinnable! :)

3 things for earth day

1. “we do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children.” – native american proverb

i saw this quote the other day and thought i would make an image quote from it for earth day 2012. click on the image for the pdf of the quote.

2.
in 2010 i designed a poster for earth day that you can also download over at creative bluebird. it’s of one of my all time favorite quotes, “in the end we will conserve only what we love; we will love only what we understand; and we will understand only what we have been taught.” – baba dioum.

3. the hidden water we use by national geographic

love national geographic! i visit their site often at work for my students. this is an awesome look at how much water it takes to produce common items that we use everyday. for example, 1 gallon of tea requires 128 gallons of water. worth checking out.

happy earth day!

helvetica (part 2)

netflix had the helvetica film. i watched it last night. if you are a designer or into fonts it is a must see. in the film someone mentions that the font is a windows and mac default font. i didn’t see it in my fonts folder nor was it showing up in any program. however, when i typed in the font name for my font choice in word it came up. interesting…to me anyway.

but hey! here is a FREE mini poster of my second favorite bible verse featuring helvetica. it’s a printable pdf file of jeremiah 23:11. print. share. post. enjoy.

helvetica

helvetica, oh how i want thee! i am bit of a font freak, i notice words and how they are presented, and lately i’ve been loving the whole gap 1969 ad campaigns featuring a very clean, chic, and modern font. helvetica. unfortunately the font is not free, and while i love fonts i don’t usually buy them. so what’s the next best thing to the real thing? a knockoff! i found an awesome knockoff called yoxall.

here is part of a gap ad featuring helvetica

here is an image i created using yoxall. pretty good knockoff.

but you know a font is awesome when there is a documentary about the font! check it out at helveticafilm.com i am thinking about doing some rebranding using helvetica (or yoxall).

coming up next! an awesome post titled why awesome is an awesome word and a look into my other overused words and expressions.

;)
be blessed.

if you’re a bird, i’m a bird (the notebook)

the notebook is one of my favorite movies. i saw it at the theater with my mom, and then eventually she bought it for me. it’s a must see if you are a female, and believe in finding true love. the idea of creating a visual homage to the film came to mind, and i was going to postpone it to valentines but i thought i would go ahead and post now. enjoy! and watch this movie if you haven’t seen it yet!

all i can do is be me

all i can do is be me – bob dylan

i never felt like i had to be anything, and that has given me to the freedom to feel like i could (and can) be myself. and sometimes i feel like “whatever that is” but i am okay with that. there is no need to check one box.

and it’s not a “take it or leave it” mentality that i have, more of a “do with it what you please” because it doesn’t matter, my thoughts are not concerned with what others think of this me that i am.
it’s freeing to be yourself.
go for it.

hello kitty always makes me happy

and i refuse to grow out of hello kitty!

from weheartit.com

are you happy?

a few years back i came to the conclusion that it’s best for me to not seek happiness, and just live my life doing all the things that i love doing and if so happen i find myself happy then great (happiness as a byproduct), but if so happen i don’t then that would be okay because at least i would still be doing things with my life that i love. many people think that if they had this or that or whatever that they would be happy. life is funny, though. what you think will make you happy don’t always make you happy. so for me happiness is this illusive concept, and so i just try to live my life in a positive way and go after all the things that i love doing. do these things make me happy? yes.

but i found this image interesting. i absolutely love flow charts. in college i tried to reduce a lot of concepts to a flow chart. i think this flow chart is successful in reducing all the self help stuff out there to a little simple image.
